The HD-PLC Alliance carries out global activities in the fields of high-speed power line communication and high-speed wired communication

Last year, the HD-PLC Alliance (Alliance) of Fukuoka, Japan established the “Global Strategic Preparatory Office”, which is a new ad hoc working group to support the development and migration of the Internet of Things. The demand for high-speed PLCs in various systems is increasing rapidly, such as smart meters, factory automation (FA), building automation (BA), solar power generation, smart street lights, smart cities, smart homes, etc.
The alliance announced several initiatives today as part of the development of its global activities.
First, the Alliance will jointly hold HD-PLC  Global Network Seminar (webinar) with IEEE SA on Thursday, March 18, to showcase its ecosystem footprint.
The official website has been fully updated in February this year, and the alliance has increased its presence on SNS sites such as Facebook and LinkedIn to spread more information on a global scale.
Despite the recent COVID-19 disaster, the alliance will continue to cooperate with IEEE and actively contribute to global standardization activities.
Since its establishment in 2007, the alliance has carried out global activities in Europe, the United States, and Asia to expand and disseminate HD-PLC and ensure interoperability. Therefore, the global IEEE standard 1901 was approved in 2010, using HD-PLC as the core technology. Jean-Philippe Faure, Chairman of the IEEE 1901 Working Group, said: “The IEEE 1901 standard is the first standard to transform decentralized initiatives into a profitable industry, providing users with interoperability guarantees.”
In 2012, HD-PLC technology was adopted by the Chinese national standard GB/T 29265.305-2012. In addition, the American standard ANSI/CTA 709.8 LON HD-PLC based on IEEE std 1901 has been approved in 2020. This shows that HD-PLC has been widely recognized as one of the most popular high-speed power line communication standards in the world.
The alliance has been and will continue to contribute to the development of the IEEE 1901 standard. “The continuous development of revisions within the IEEE 1901 working group has consolidated the technology, inspired new uses in new areas-the LON standard-and expanded the PLC market to new generations of products.” Jean-Philippe Faure continued. The last achievement is the publication of IEEE Std 1901-2020.
